GoLive2™ Internet Safety

General Safety Tips

GoLive2™ members enjoy the best games the Web has to offer. From kid-friendly virtual worlds to casual games to serious MMORPGs, GoLive2™ members can play online without limits.

When playing on GoLive2™, please observe the following Internet safety tips:

Remember that the Internet is a public place. Don't post or say anything you
wouldn't want a stranger to know about you. (e.g., your phone number, school, address,
or personal email address). Steer clear of posts that a stranger could use to find out
where you live or hang out.

Not everyone is who they claim to be. Even if you think you know a person, they
may not be who they say they are. The Internet is great for meeting new people from all
over the world, but sometimes it's easy to be misled. Don't meet anyone in person,
even if you are absolutely sure you know them.

Don't post anything that you might regret later. Everyone on GoLive2™ will be able
to see what you post, so don't post anything that you wouldn't want the world to see.

Harassment, hate speech and inappropriate content should be reported. If you
encounter inappropriate behavior, report it to GoLive2™ or the authorities.

Protect your privacy. Never share your password with a friend or acquaintance.
If you think that someone has gotten your password, change it immediately.

Above all, use common sense. Think twice about what you say or post,
just like you would in the offline world. Trust your instincts!

For Parents

GoLive2™ offers following tips to begin a dialogue about safe Web practices:

Make it a team effort! Get to know the sites your child frequents. Read the rules and privacy policies of those sites together so that you both understand them (GoLive2™'s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service can be found here). As long as there are clear lines of communication between you and your child, you both will benefit from the fun and exciting opportunities that the Internet offers.

Set and enforce rules and limitations. Establish boundaries concerning the amount of time your child spends online as well as proper online etiquette. Monitor your child's Internet use by putting the computer in a central location in your home.

Get Involved. Make an effort to understand the online world from the perspectives of both parents and kids. GoLive2™ is open to both kids and parents and encourages families to play together. Research popular kids' sites. Talk to other parents about the advantages and potential dangers of Internet use.

Make yourself available and approachable. It is important that your child feels that they can come to you at any time with questions or concerns about what they see on the Internet. If your child informs you of something upsetting that they saw online, commend him or her for having the courage and maturity to approach you about it. Offer possible solutions as far as how to avoid such situations in the future. As long as the lines of communication stay open between you and your child, the Internet provides a boundless world of possibilities, growth and learning for kids and parents alike.

Use parental control settings. There is software available which allows you to create an online environment for your child consistent with your sensibilities. Talk to your Internet service provider about possible courses of action to insure a safe and kid-friendly online experience for your child.

Remind kids to be cautious. Remind your kids to be careful about communicating with strangers. GoLive2™ offers a great place for kids to meet other kids, but members should be cautious when communicating with people they don't know.

For Kids

When you are playing on GoLive2™ follow the tips below to stay safe:

Never give out your personal identification information. Never tell anyone your phone number, address, school or anything else that could be used to identify you in the real world. People aren't always who they say they are online, and sharing information with strangers can be dangerous. If you feel pressured to share information with anyone, tell your parents or the game moderator immediately.

If someone's behavior makes you feel uncomfortable, tell your parents. If someone says something that makes you uncomfortable or asks for your personal information, tell your parents or another adult immediately.

Report any offensive or inappropriate behavior. If someone's behavior is making you uncomfortable, it shouldn't be posted on the site. Report any inappropriate speech to GoLive2™ or the authorities.

Only share your password with your parents. Anyone else could use your password, pose as you, and do something that could get you into trouble or give out your personal information.

Don't use your real name or a derivation of it as your screen name. Be creative! Make up a fun new name or use the name of a favorite movie character, singer, or athlete to use as your screen name.

Never share personally embarrassing or private information. Things that you post or say on GoLive2™, or anywhere else on the Web, will be available for everyone to see for a long time. Even if you never share your real name or other personal info, someone might recognize you! Always assume that what you're posting is not anonymous, and that somebody might find out about it.

Don't mislead people about your age. It is not only against GoLive2™'s Terms of Service but it can be dangerous to mislead other people about your age. If you pretend to be older or younger than you really are, GoLive2™ will remove your profile.

Never arrange meetings with strangers. People are not always who they say they are online. Never arrange real-life meetings with people you meet on the Internet. If anyone tries to lure you into meeting them in real life, or asks you to do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable, you should inform your parents or a trusted adult immediately! If you have suspicions or a bad feeling about anyone you talk to on GoLive2™, or anywhere else online, trust your instincts and tell an adult.

Avoid unmonitored scenes. Game moderators are there for your protection, so make sure there is a moderator is present when you are in the scene.
